Although many industries are reopening in England from July 4, no official date has been given for the reopening of indoor gyms by the government.
Gyms are not reopening because they are deemed a ‘close proximity’ venue. Boris Johnson said, “Close proximity venues such as nightclubs, soft-play areas, indoor gyms, swimming pools and spas will need to remain closed for now, as will bowling alleys and water parks.”
He added, “Business and Culture Secretaries will establish taskforces with public health experts and these sectors to help them become Covid-secure and re-open as soon as possible.”
Gyms may be given the green light to open within the month. The Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, Oliver Dowden, wrote on Twitter, “Many people keen to hit the gym & keeping Britain fit is key in Covid battle. We’ve made lots of progress & I know steps businesses have taken to make their spaces & equipment safe. Subject to public health, our aspiration is to reopen gyms & leisure facilities in mid-July.”
We will keep you all informed. Thank you and see you soon.
